In honor and tribute to the memory of former President James Earl Carter, Jr, who passed on December 29, 2024, and as an expression of public sorrow, President Biden has directed that the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff for a period of 30 days from his passing. In addition, President Biden has appointed January 9, 2025, as a National Day of Mourning throughout the United States, calling on the American people to assemble on that day, in their respective places of worship, to pay homage to the memory of James Earl Carter, Jr.
